What makes the Hmong Heritage Run 5K different from other 5Ks?
The Hmong Heritage Run 5K is more than a race — it is a celebration of history, resilience, and identity. The event honors and represents the Hmong migration journey from ancient western China to Southeast Asia, and later across the globe, including communities here in North Carolina.
While promoting physical wellness, the 5K also creates space to recognize the strength, perseverance, and cultural continuity of the Hmong people. Proceeds support language preservation, youth development, and cultural programs that ensure this story continues to be remembered and carried forward.
How does this event support the Hmong community?
The Hmong Heritage Run 5K supports the Hmong community by creating intentional space for cultural preservation, health awareness, and intergenerational connection.
Through this event, we:
Promote Physical Wellness – Encouraging healthy lifestyles through movement and community participation.
Preserve Cultural Identity – Showcasing traditional attire, language, music, and storytelling so younger generations remain connected to their roots.
Fund Educational Programs – Proceeds support initiatives such as Hmong language and culture camps, youth leadership development, and cultural arts programming.
Strengthen Community Pride – Bringing together elders, youth, families, and local businesses in a shared celebration of heritage.
Build Long-Term Infrastructure – Supporting the broader vision of establishing sustainable cultural programming and future community space in North Carolina.
HHR 5K is more than a race. It is a platform that reinvests in the Hmong community — preserving heritage while building forward.
